REMINDER! ANNUAL SOMERVILLE SPRING CLEANUP, SAT. MAY 8th,
10:00AM-12:00PM, LOCATIONS CITYWIDE: The annual Somerville Spring
Clean-Up will be held on Saturday, May 8th at locations throughout the
City. A rain date has been set for Sunday, May 9th. Volunteers should
meet a ward captain at 10:00 am at the following locations:
* Ward 1: Cross Street Senior Center, 165 Broadway; AND Capuano
School
* Ward 2: Union Square Parking Lot at SCAT Building
* Ward 3: City Hall Concourse, 93 Highland Ave.
* Ward 4: Blessing of the Bay Boat House, Shore Drive
* Ward 5: Community Path at Cedar Street
* Ward 6: Davis Square, Statue Park
* Ward 7: Teele Square Fire Station
Clean-Up participants are also invited to attend the 4th Annual
SomerGreen Festival and Barbecue at Nunziato Field, at Summer and Putnam

SOMERVILLE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMISSION "PRESERVATION MONTH" EVENTS:
There will be several events throughout May to celebrate the 2010
"Preservation Month." The SHPC and Historic Somerville partner to host
events honoring Somerville's history and historic districts, culminating
the annual Preservation Awards Ceremony. Upcoming events include:
* Wednesday, May 5th, 5:30 PM: Appreciation Ceremony and Tour of
Milk Row Cemetery.
* Thursday, May 6th: Historic Walking Tour of East Somerville.
Tour begins at the Mt. Vernon Restaurant, 14 Broadway.
* Thursday, May 13th, 7:00 PM: "Reaching the History of Your House
and Your Family" discussion at Somerville Public Library, 79 Highland
Ave.
* Thursday, May 20th, 6:30 PM: Historic Preservation Awards
Ceremony at the Somerville Museum. the ceremony will honor 11 Somerville
property owners for historic preservation to their homes.
* Sunday, May 23rd, 1:00PM: Historic Bike Tour of the "Lost
Theatres of Somerville." Tour begins at City Hall, with a $3.00
donation for participants.

SOMERVILLE COMMUNITY GROWING CENTER (22 VINAL AVE.) OPEN: The garden is
now open every Saturday through October from 9 am to noon for "Open
Garden Saturdays." Starting May 15, Somerville Seniors are invited to do
some gardening during "Senior Saturdays." The weekly event is in
collaboration with Somerville Cambridge Elder Services. SCM Community
Transportation has free transportation. If interested in
transportation assistance, you must call by noon on Friday the day
before you need a ride. Contact sponsor SCM Community Transportation at
617-625-1191 or www.scmtransportation.org
to arrange for Door2Door service.

Please see the below announcements about several citywide events.
SPRING RESISTAT MEETINGS: We are in the process of finalizing an exciting spring ResiStat program! The ResiStat meetings are a great way to hear about issues that are important to the community and engage city officials with questions and comments. The upcoming series of meetings will feature an optional walking tour around your neighborhood before the meeting starts (starting at the meeting location). These walks will be guided by City staff who can speak to the recently completed or upcoming development projects along the route. Please bring your cameras, as you will be able to submit pictures along with your comments for posting on the ResiStat website. The agenda for the meetings are based largely on your suggestions from the spring ResiStat survey, and will also include a debrief from the walk. Please hold the following dates:

SOMERVILLE COMMUNITY CHORUS 25TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT, SAT. 5/15, 7:00PM, FIRST CHURCH (89 COLLEGE AVE.): Join the Somerville Community Chorus for their 25th anniversary concert, which is themed a "Celebration of music." General admission is $15, $10 for Seniors, and $6 for children under 18. There will also be a raffle for gift baskets. MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONIES & PARADE, SUN. 5/30, 8:00AM & 1:00PM, CITY HALL CONCOURSE TO TEELE SQUARE: The Memorial Day Ceremonies and parade are sponsored by the Somerville Veterans Services Department, the Somerville Allied Veterans' Council, and the City of Somerville. Ceremonies will begin at 8:00 a.m. at American Legion Post #19, with a procession down Highland Ave to the Central Library, placing wreaths on monuments in Central Hill Park. The parade will step off from the City Hall concourse at 1:00 p.m., and continue down Highland Ave. to the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Teele Square. HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARDS CEREMONY, THURS. 5/20, 6:30 PM, SOMERVILLE
MUSEUM (1 WESTWOOD RD, CORNER OF CENTRAL ST.): A reception with light
refreshments will be followed by a ceremony to honor 11 Somerville
property owners for their award winning preservation work on the
exterior of their properties. This ceremony is a part of Preservation
Month events throughout May sponsored by the Somerville Historic
Preservation Commission (SHPC). The properties include historically
designated homes, older houses, and a church in the City. SHS students
will also present their original drawings of each property to the

SOMERSTREETS KICK OFF EVENT, SAT. 5/22, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM, FOSS PARK AT
JAQUES ST: The City's new SomerStreets program allows residents to
explore the City by shutting various streets to promote safe walking,
running, biking routes in various locations throughout the City. The
series kicks off on May 22nd at Foss Park where the City will distribute
area maps/passbooks that will promote and showcase some of the City's
hidden jewels, like walking, running, biking on the Blueback Herring
River Route, The Blessing of the Bay Boat House, and the Mystic River
Reservation, with organized programming along Shore Drive and a water

SHARE YOUR FAMILY'S SHAPE UP SOMERVILLE EXPERIENCE: Do you know a
family that has embraced the activities and ideals of Shape Up
Somerville? A national news program wants to interview them to learn how

either on May 25th or June 14th or 15th. For more information, please

GREEN LINE STATION AREA PLANNING OPEN HOUSE, SAT 6/12, 10:00AM-3:00PM,
ARGENZIANO SCHOOL (290 WASHINGTON ST.): The City of Somerville and the
Massachusetts Department of Transportation are hosting an Open House on
Green Line station-area planning and the City-Wide planning process.
Join us to discuss ideas about land use around the new transit stations.
This meeting will also include a presentation of the Somerville Vision
Statement and unveiling of draft Goals for the City-Wide Plan. For more

Participate in Somerville Cares About Prevention's National Night Out:
SCAP invites community organizations and individuals to play a role in
this event, which is a community crime and drug prevention event that

joined us for free performances and activities and multiple
organizations had information tables. Those who would like to have an
information table or run a youth activity at the event must sign up no
