PATRIOTS DAY EVENT PLANNING MEETING, TODAY, THURS. 3/4, 7:30PM, SOMERVILLE MUSEUM, 1 WESTWOOD RD/CORNER OF CENTRAL ST: Historic Somerville, the Historic Preservation Commission, the Somerville Museum, and East Somerville Main Streets are planning a Patriot's Day Event in Foss Park this coming April 19th. It will be a Colonial era fair for children. Lots of volunteers are needed to help - 8th graders and high schoolers are a great age and this activity counts toward community service! GREEN LINE EXTENSION WORK, WEEKS ENDING 3/5 & 3/12, 7:00AM-3:30PM, WALNUT ST, MEDFORD ST, CEDAR ST, & WASHINGTON AND MCGRATH: MassDOT has been performing field work for the extension of the Green Line to Somerville and Medford. SOMERVILLE'S FIRST VISION STATEMENT CREATED: As a result of our recent
series of "Visioning Meetings" and discussions by Somerville's
Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, the City has created its
first-ever "Vision Statement." Thanks to everyone who participated in

REMINDER! RESISTAT NAMING CONTEST: We are soliciting ideas for a new
name for the ResiStat program. ResiStat aims to engage residents in
data-driven discussions on quality of life issues in their neighborhood
as well as on citywide plans and developments. The new name should
convey core program features of neighborhood-specific, data-oriented
discussions, community meetings, and government accountability. Name
ideas will be collected and then voted upon at upcoming ward-based
meetings and online. Prizes will be given out! Submit your name ideas

2010 SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM ENROLLMENT: Enrollment is open for the 2010
Recreation Summer Youth Program. The full-day, 40-hour per week summer

first-come first-serve basis; space is limited, so register early. For

HELP SOMERVILLE WIN THE OPPORTUNITY TO PILOT GOOGLE'S HIGH-SPEED
NETWORK! The City of Somerville is seeking the opportunity to be
included as a trial area for Google's ultra-high speed network and we
need your help! The network, said by Google to "deliver Internet speeds
more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to
today," will be offered at a competitive price to a small number of
trial locations across the country. Along with the City submitting a
Request For Information (RFI), Google is asking local residents to
express their interest in a trial in their community. Your support will
strengthen Somerville's case to be included in the pilot. Please help
make a case for Somerville by submitting a nomination online here:

HUD ACTION PLAN PUBLIC HEARING, THURS. 4/8, 6:30-8:30PM, RALPH & JENNY
CENTER (9 NEW WASHINGTON ST.): A public hearing has been scheduled to
solicit input in to the HUD Action Plan for 2010-2011, which will run
from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. This hearing will start a 30 day
public comment period. If you would like to submit comments, please do
so no later than Monday, May 11th, 4:30 pm to Brianna O'Brien,
bobrien@somervillema.gov. A copy of the draft Action Plan will be
available on the City's website on April 8th.
TUFTS KIDS' DAY, SAT, 4/10, 9:00AM-3:30PM (REGISTRATION 8:50-10:00AM),
TUFTS UNIVERSITY MEDFORD CAMPUS: Kids' Day features Amusement park
rides, magic shows, chemistry shows, carnival booths, and exciting
performances. Kids' Day is open to children from the Medford and
Somerville communities between kindergarten and third grade. Tufts
students volunteer to guide children through the day's events, run
student booths, and perform shows. Lunch and snacks are provided.

CITY TO TURN OFF LIGHTS IN MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS ON AS PART OF "EARTH
HOUR": The City of Somerville will turn off non-essential lighting at
City locations from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on Saturday, March 27th as part of
the 3rd annual Earth Hour. Earth Hour challenges individuals and
organizations worldwide to turn off electricity for one hour to action
on climate change and a more secure environmental future. Street lights
and municipal security lights will not be affected by this event. This
is first in a series of green events the City will promote this year.

(259 LOWELL ST): The City is holding its fifth annual event in honor of
Women's History Month on this Wednesday. The annual reception honors
the top organization, individual, and/or group of women for excellence
in services to women in the community. The 2010 award recipients are

STREET SWEEPING RESUMES, THURS. 4/1: The City reminds all residents
that regular street sweeping schedules will resume beginning Thursday,
April 1st and continue through December 31st 2010. On designated
street sweeping days, vehicles must be moved to one side of the street,
as dictated by posted signs on each street. Failure to comply with
street sweeping parking regulations will result in a $50 fine. For more

CENSUS OUTREACH DAY, THURS. 4/1, 4:00-6:00PM, FOSS PARK: The City
invites all residents and community members to attend "Census Day in
Somerville," a community-wide fair. The event will include refreshments
from local ethnic restaurants, live music and dance exhibitions, and
local non-profit organizations, and is designed to promote education and
awareness for the 2010 Census. Census forms will be available in
several languages, and staff will be available to provide support and

RABIES CLINIC, SAT. 4/3, 10:00AM-12:00PM, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS'
GARAGE (1 Franey Road): The Somerville Health Department is holding the
City's 10th annual rabies clinic for cats and dogs. Rabies vaccinations
and on-site licenses for dogs will be available at the clinic. The cost
of the vaccine is $10, and a dog license is $12 for spayed and neutered
dogs, with proof, or $20 for non-spayed or neutered dogs. All
vaccinations will be valid for one year. Residents are required to
license their dogs and a current rabies vaccine is required to obtain a
