* There is a major pothole on the northbound side of I-93, just before
exit 33 in Medford. Here is
the info on our blog. If you receive this email before your drive home,
please take another route (for your sake and everyone else's).
* Thank you to everyone who sent in information about flooded streets.
Because of your data, we were able to update the city's flood map
, which will be used to better respond to this crisis. In
related news, the SBA continues to offer disaster relief
to
Massachusetts residents.
* SomerStat is still accepting
applications!
* Lincoln Park Campout
The first Great Somerville Campout will be held from Saturday, Aug. 7,
at 4 p.m. through Sunday, Aug. 8, weather permitting. All are welcome
for songs, skits, s'mores and stories. Families and anyone else who
likes to camp are welcome to spend the night in Lincoln Park on the
soccer field. Set up your tents any time after 4 p.m. and stay until the
next morning. Bring food to grill. There will be a pancake breakfast for
anyone who stays over. Families are also welcome to stop by to join in
the activities, even if they are not staying over. The rain date is set

* Public Hearing on Star Market Site
The public hearing on the proposal to bring Ocean State Job Lot to the
former Star Market site in Winter Hill has been rescheduled to Thursday,
August 19th at 6:00 pm at City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue, Somerville.
Community members may submit written comments on the proposal to George
Proakis at gproakis@somervillema.gov until August 19th.

* Somerville is finally on Facebook! You can receive news and
information by "liking" the official Somerville page

The owner of the former Star Market site sent out a flyer
inviting community members to a public meeting,
tonight (8/17) at the Elizabeth Peabody House, 277 Broadway, 7:00 - 8:30
pm.
* Correction: Public Hearing on Ocean State Job Lot Scheduled for 8/24
NOT 8/19
The public hearing
on the proposal to bring Ocean State Job Lot to
the former Star Market site is scheduled for Tuesday, August 24th, 6:00
pm at City Hall. The public will be allowed to speak as part of the
regular Planning Board meeting. Community members may also submit
written comments on the proposal to George Proakis at
gproakis@somervillema.gov. (Note: last week's email incorrectly stated
that the meeting was scheduled for August 19th. I'm sorry for any
confusion).

Construction in Magoun Square
You may have noticed some delays in Magoun Square. It is business as
usual for local restaurants and shops, but there are some street
closures
to be aware of this afternoon and again tomorrow.

Public Hearing on Star Market Site
The Planning Board held a public hearing recently on the proposal to
bring Ocean State Job Lot to the former Star Market site in Winter Hill.
The Board heard testimony on the proposal and will continue
deliberations during their next meeting on Thursday, September 2nd.
Written comments will be accepted until noon on Friday, August 27th and
may be submitted to George Proakis at gproakis@somervillema.gov.

8th Annual Somerville Homeless Coalition Golf Tournament
This year's tournament will be held at the Wayland Country Club in
Wayland, Mass, September 10th. Golfers can check-in the day of the
event at 12:30 p.m., followed by a barbeque-style lunch. Shotgun start
will be at 1:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the non-profit
organization and the programs and services it provides to the homeless
and near-homeless in Somerville and the Greater Boston area. More info
is available on the SHC website .
