We invite you to experience the decision-making process City leaders carried out at a ResiStat wrap-up meeting on Thursday, July 30th from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. (location TBA.) Residents will be able to test out the impact different budget decisions have on the bottom line, City services, and quality of life. Learn what the City decided to do and provide input on additional financial decisions the City faces. ResiStat Award Nominations Solicited: ResiStat's mission is to use resident insight and energy to improve Somerville. In the spirit of this mission, we are launching the first ever annual ResiStat Award to recognize and learn from Somerville's community contributors. Mayor Curtatone invites you to nominate an individual who regularly works to solve a community problem and/or who contributes to the city's sense of community, including building connections across Somerville's diversity. The little things make a big difference in our city, so feel free to nominate an unsung hero in your neighborhood. We will recognize nominees and one award winner at the ResiStat wrap-up meeting on July 30th. We hope nominees will share with us the secrets of their success -- how have they been able to help make Somerville an amazing place to live, work, and play! Please take a minute to nominate a neighbor or friend by Friday, July 24th. Note, we will get the nominee's permission before we share their information publicly. Residents will be able to test out the impact different budget decisions have on the City's bottom line, average household costs, and on City priorities. You will have a chance to crunch numbers, chat with neighbors, and try your hand at being an elected official. PARKING ISSUES: There has been quite a bit of discussion about the planned parking policy changes (expansion of permit parking and increases in cost and time of meters). For anyone interested in the context in which these parking policy changes were formulated, please attend the ResiStat Wrap-Up meeting described above. We will discuss parking policy as it relates to the larger budget decisions under consideration this year. Also note, to help with implementation and refinement of the proposed changes, the Mayor convened a Parking Solutions Taskforce. A copy of the report is available here: http://www.somervillema.gov/cos_content/documents/ParkingSolutionsTaskForceReport.pdf. A press release announcing the recommendations is also available here: http://www.somervillema.gov/NewsDetail.cfm?instance_id=1481. The City is in the process of implementing the Taskforce's recommendations.
