Hello - As mentioned in the last e-mail, here are some additional dates relating to the registration process for other groups in addition to kindergartners. It was pulled together by Ward 6 School Committee rep Paul Bockelman, in response to questions that come up often.

Hi!

Below are the dates for the Somerville Public Schools' open houses and the times for registering for pre-school, kindergarten, or any other grade. The School Department's Parent Information Center (PIC) at 42 Prescott Street is the best place to start as you begin thinking about schools. The PIC is open regular hours and has extended hours and locations during January and February. (See schedule below.)

Please note that everything is conducted as a lottery - there is NO "first come; first served". These are the key deadlines: 
April 1 - Grades 1-8 Intra-District transfer acceptance for 2010-2011 at the PIC
April 8 - First batch kindergarten registration deadline
April 14 - Unidos / Choice Lottery (10:00AM) and all other first batch kindergarten assignments processed.


I urge you to take the time to visit our schools during Open House Days, January 20, 21, and 22. Anyone can visit during these times, no matter how old your child is. I found it useful to get a flavor for each school in the District. (In Somerville, you can attend any school in the City.)

I and other members of the School Committee are available and EAGER to talk to parents/guardians as you consider which school is best for your child.

Elementary Schools Open House

Wednesday, January 20 - 8:30am - 1:30pm

Thursday, January 21 - 8:30am - 1:30pm

Friday, January 22 - 8:30am - 1:30pm

 

Parent Information Center (PIC) Coffee Hour - 42 Prescott Street

9am-10am - on the days of the Elementary Schools Open House

 

Kindergarten Registration

Saturday, January 23 at PIC (Gym), 10am - 2pm (Snow Date: Saturday, January 30)

Monday, January 25 and Tuesday, January 26 at Capuano, 9am-2pm

Wednesday, January 27 at West Somerville Neighborhood School, 9am - 2pm

Thursday, January 28 at Healey, 2pm - 7pm

Friday, January 29 - registration becomes on-going at PIC, 10am - 4pm

Tuesday, February 2 at PIC, 8am - 8pm

Thursday, April 8 - First batch kindergarten registration deadline to be considered for the K Unidos / Choice lottery and other first batch kindergarten assignments

Monday, April 12 - Kindergarten applications get processed in weekly batches

Wednesday, April 14 - Lottery for the Choice and Unidos Programs

 

Early Childhood Integrated Program (ECIP)

Wednesday, February 3 - Information meeting for Typically Developing Peers (TDP) at Capuano - 9:00am-10:00am - TDP application acceptance starts at 10:00 am

Thursday, February 4 - Information meeting at Capuano - 5:00pm-6:00pm

Friday, March 12 - ECIP TDP applications deadline

Thursday, March 18 - Lottery for ECIP TDP - 9:00am at Capuano

 

Pre-School Open House at Capuano:

Tuesday, March 23; Wednesday, March 24; and Thursday, March 25; 9:00am - 11:00am

 

Pre-School Registration:

Saturday, March 27 (snow date April 10) at PIC (Gym), 10am - 1pm

On going at PIC as of March 29 from 8am-4pm

Tuesday, April13 at PIC, 8am - 8pm

May 7 - Pre-K registration first batch deadline

May 10 - Pre-K assignment processed, lottery if needed. Letters mailed home.

 

School Assignment Information:

April 1 - Grades 1-8 Intra-District transfer acceptance for 2010-2011 at the PIC

April 8 - First batch kindergarten registration deadline

April 14 - Unidos / Choice Lottery (10:00AM) and all other first batch kindergarten  assignments processed

April 20th week - PIC mails home first batch kindergarten assignment letters

May 10 - Pre-K assignments processed. Letters mailed

June 2 - Kindergarten Transition Day, 9:00am-11:00am

June 14 - PIC begins to process assignments for grades 1-8
