It was pulled together by Ward 6 School Committee rep Paul Bockelman, in response to questions that come up often. **************************** Hi! Below are the dates for the Somerville Public Schools' open houses and the times for registering for pre-school, kindergarten, or any other grade. The School Department's Parent Information Center (PIC) at 42 Prescott Street is the best place to start as you begin thinking about schools. The PIC is open regular hours and has extended hours and locations during January and February. (See schedule below.) Please note that everything is conducted as a lottery - there is NO "first come; first served". These are the key deadlines:? April 1?- Grades 1-8 Intra-District transfer acceptance for 2010-2011 at the PIC April 8?- First batch kindergarten registration deadline April 14 - Unidos / Choice Lottery (10:00AM) and all other first batch kindergarten?assignments processed. I urge you to take the time to visit our schools during Open House Days, January 20, 21, and 22. Anyone can visit during these times, no matter how old your child is. I found it useful to get a flavor for each school in the District. (In Somerville, you can attend any school in the City.) I and other members of the School Committee are available and EAGER to talk to parents/guardians as you consider which school is best for your child. Thanks! Paul?
